Canadian auto journalists name Porsche Panamera Best New Prestige Car

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 2 /CNW/ – The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has named the new Porsche Panamera the Best New Prestige Car Over $75,000. The announcement was made at the end of AJAC’s annual Canadian Car of the Year “TestFest” in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

“We’re excited to win this prestigious award, especially as it comes directly on the heels of our Panamera launch here in Canada,” said Joe Lawrence, President and CEO of Porsche Cars Canada. “After speaking with hundreds of customers and prospects, I’m certain they too feel the same way about the Panamera as the AJAC journailsts who voted it winner in its class. While the Panamera is impressive on-paper, it also makes an unusually positive impression in person and on the road. It is at once something entirely new for Porsche and at the same time unmistakably Porsche.”

AJAC’s testing program includes real-world driving and dynamic on-track testing to deliver data and vote results that are highly relevant to potential buyers. Over 70 journalists evaluate every detail of each entry to select the best new vehicles each year.

In order to win the hard-fought category, the Panamera faced rivals from BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. In the process, it recorded the fastest 0-100 km/h and 80-120 km/h acceleration times of any car in the entire competition and posted the best braking distances in the class. It also received top marks from journalists for steering, braking feel and effectiveness, interior styling and overall quality.

The four-door Porsche, which went on sale October 17, is now eligible to compete for the title of overall Canadian Car of the Year, which will be announced on press day at Toronto’s Canadian International Auto Show in mid-February.
