MITSUBISHI’S CANADIAN RALLY TEAM SCORES TOP IN MODERN DIVISION AT TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (September 24, 2008) –Team Mitsubishi, piloted by Andrew (ACP) Comrie-Picard and co-driver Jen Horsey posted a first place driving their Lancer Evolution in the Modern division of the world-renowned Targa Newfoundland rally this past weekend.“This event presented an incredible challenge for us, it required a flat-out push to the finish and we’re proud to have earned the Modern Division win”, said Andrew Comrie Picard.
In the spirit of competition, Mitsubishi entered two company supported vehicles with two drivers and two co-drivers – including Mark Hacking and John LeBlanc in a brand new 2009 Lancer Ralliart – and Andrew Comrie-Picard and Jen Horsey in the Lancer Evolution.
LeBlanc and Hacking finished in the middle of their division, considering it a huge accomplishment for their first year together in a brand new vehicle and given that they were facing such a competitively challenging course.
“We’re very proud of both our Mitsubishi teams,” said Mr. Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “Their skill and performance showcased the exceptional qualities and features that both our Lancer Ralliart and Lancer Evolution deliver. Whether competing professionally or used everyday by our valued customers, these automobiles exhibit agility, capability and reliability – and they do so in their unique, athletic style.”
Participation in the Targa Newfoundland provides a perfect opportunity for Mitsubishi to showcase these performance oriented road licensed sports sedans in a truly competitive and realistic environment.
With over 70 competing cars, this event featured an endurance-testing course that covered 2,200 kilometers of travel through picturesque fishing villages and across coastal highways on the eastern half of Newfoundland, from St. John’s north to Gander, south to the Burin Peninsula and back to St. John’s.
Additional Team Mitsubishi Quotes
Jen Horsey
“It takes a lot of teamwork to get a good result at Targa Newfoundland,” said Horsey, who now has two Modern division wins to her credit. “A single mistake on either side of the car during week can drop you out of podium contention.”
Mark Hacking
“Once again, I’ve come away from Targa Newfoundland with great respect for the event and for the organizers who make it so challenging. We had a difficult run that was made all the more difficult when we crashed on day two. Everyone who saw the Ralliart in the ditch thought we were done, but our crew got us back on the road in record time. We were battered and bruised, but we eventually made it to the finish — all because of the inherent toughness of the car and the stellar work of our crew.”
John LeBlanc
“With this year being my second crack at Targa Newfoundland, once again I learned that experience and consistency is the path to success at this event. Considering we ran with a brand new car in the Ralliart and new team mates, I consider the fact we finished competitively a
huge accomplishment.”
