ALL-NEW 2009 MAZDA6 ADDS REFINEMENTS TO ZOOM-ZOOM DRIVING DYNAMICS
–Second-generation model on sale in August at $22,495–
(Richmond Hill, ON): The all-new, second-generation Mazda6 arrives at
Canadian dealerships this August as a 2009 model. The original Mazda6,
introduced in 2003, earned a reputation for exceptional driving dynamics
among intermediate sedans and was named the 2004 “Best New Family Vehicle”
by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. In designing the
2009 model, Mazda’s engineers continued their emphasis on class-leading
driving dynamics while also enhancing the overall dimensions, interior
refinements, and craftsmanship in accordance with the tastes of North
American consumers. The 2009 Mazda6 has a starting price of $22,495.
“With the introduction of the 2009 Mazda6, we are poised to capture an
even larger share of intermediate sedan buyers,” said Don Romano,
president of Mazda Canada Inc. “With its dramatic design, driving
dynamics, quality, and value, the new Mazda6 is a fresh alternative to the
bland offerings in this segment from other Japanese and North American
brands,” he continued.
The 2009 Mazda6 is larger than the original version in every dimension.
Wheelbase is lengthened by 115 mm, overall length is greater by 195 mm,
while overall width is increased by 60 mm. Both front and rear occupants
benefit from more headroom, shoulder room, and legroom. Cargo capacity
grows by 39 litres to 469 litres in the 2009 Mazda6.
Mazda Canada will offer the 2009 Mazda6 in two trim grades: the
well-equipped GS and top-of-the-line GT. Each trim grade is available
with a new 170-horsepower, 2.5 litre four-cylinder or a 272-horsepower,
3.7 litre V6 engine. On four-cylinder models the standard transmission is
a 6-speed manual with a 5-speed automatic optional. On V6 models, a
6-speed automatic is the only transmission available.
The 2009 Mazda6 GS, with the 2.5 litre engine, starts at $22,495 and comes
very well equipped for an intermediate sedan. In addition to the 17-inch
alloy wheels, the 215/55R17 tires are equipped with a tire pressure
monitoring system (TPMS). Other safety and security features standard on
the Mazda6 GS include: four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with
electronic brake force distribution, traction control, front and side
airbags as well as side air curtain air bags, height adjustable rear
headrests, anti-theft alarm system, and engine-immobilizer.
The 2009 Mazda6 GS is also fitted with numerous features that intermediate
sedan customers may not find in competitive vehicles, such as: power
windows with a convenient one-touch up- and down function, tilt and
telescopic adjustable steering wheel with integrated cruise control and
audio switches, AM/FM/CD with six speakers and MP3 capability as well as
auxiliary-audio input, air conditioning with micron air filter, 60/40
split fold down rear seat, and illuminated vanity mirrors for both front
seats. A five-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode is available as
an option.
When the 2009 Mazda6 GS is equipped with the 3.7 litre V6 engine and
six-speed automatic transmission, additional standard equipment includes
fog lights and LED taillights. The 2009 Mazda6 GS with V6 engine has a
manufacturer list price of $27,495.Whether fitted with the four- or
six-cylinder engine, the 2009 Mazda6 GS has one comprehensive option
package available – a Comfort Package. Included in the Comfort Package
is: dynamic stability control, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat,
lumbar support for the driver, moonroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel,
shift knob and parking brake handle, rain-sensing wipers, and headlights
that are automatically turned on and off by a dusk sensor.
The top-of-the-line GT trim adds a variety of functional and convenience
features to the GS with Comfort Package with a starting price of $27,395.
Visually the GT is distinguished on the exterior by its 18-inch alloy
wheels and 235/45/R18 tires, while fog lights and LED taillights further
differentiate the GT from the GS I4 model. Inside the 2009 Mazda6 GT
comes a leather interior, adjustable heated front seats, 4-way power
adjustable passenger seat, automatically dimming mirrors, 6-disc CD
changer, Homelink, and indirect illumination from the overhead console.
As with the GS trim grade there is a comprehensive option package
available on the GT trim that adds several unique features in this
segment. The GT Luxury Package includes a smart keyless entry system and
push button ignition, BOSE audio system with Centrepoint surround sound
and 10 speakers, Bluetooth with Audio Profile, SIRIUS satellite radio
compatibility, and HID headlights with manual levelling adjustment. On GT
V6 vehicles the Luxury Package also includes a blind spot monitoring
system and a welcome foot light on exterior mirrors. Both a five-speed
automatic transmission with Sport mode (I4 models) and satellite
navigation system are available as stand alone options.
Among the numerous standard features on the 2009 Mazda6 is a 3-year
roadside assistance program. Customers can feel secure knowing that
wherever they travel throughout North America should the need arise they
can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting, emergency fuel delivery,
and tire changing services. They will even get help if locked out of the
vehicle. Travel planning services and emergency travel expense
reimbursement are included in the roadside assistance program.
The 2009 Mazda6 is covered by a 3-year or 80,000km vehicle warranty that
covers every part of the vehicle except those subject to normal wear.
Additional warranties cover powertrain and safety restraint components for
a period of 5 years or 100,000km, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years
unlimited kilometres and selected emission control components for 8 years
or 128,000km.
