Demo laps in front of 220,000 fans on the Nürburgring

Stuttgart. There are moments that render even Porsche works drivers speechless. “These two laps are hard to describe,” said Timo Bernhard, commenting on his drive in the 476 hp Porsche RS Spyder on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. “With this car on this track – that was one of my most wonderful experiences in motorsport,” added his team mate Romain Dumas. In front of around 220,000 fans in the Eifel, the two pole-sitters of the marathon underlined that they are not only experts at the wheel of the Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

Timo Bernhard piloted the yellow RS Spyder which Penske Racing fields in the American Le Mans Series. Romain Dumas manned the red and white vehicle of the Horag Racing team, which contests the Le Mans Series in Europe. “You could hear the V8 sound of the RS Spyder for almost a minute before it flew by. It gave me goosebumps,” said a fan, describing the unusual sound.

On 17th August, fans can witness a total of three RS Spyder on the Nürburgring, when the Horag Racing, Essex and Van Merksteijn Motorsport teams contest the LMP2 class at the fourth round of the Le Mans Series. At each of the first three races of this season, an RS Spyder was first over the finish line. Porsche pilots Jos Verstappen and Peter van Merksteijn lead the series.
