Mitsubishi Motors’ Global C-Segment Platform Continues To Drive
Brand As Demand Within Compact Vehicle Segment Increases

Lancer And Outlander Receive Industry Recognition
For Versatility, Technology And Appeal

CYPRESS, CA, April 30, 2008 – As the market demand for compact
vehicles increases with the help of rising gas prices, sales of
Mitsubishi Motors’ Lancer and Outlander vehicles continue to
drive the brand’s caché.  Built on the same global C-Segment
platform, the two model lines accounted for 44.2 percent of
Mitsubishi Motors North America’s (MMNA) total sales in the
calendar year 2007.

Since being completely redesigned in 2007, the Mitsubishi Lancer
sedan has been recognized across the industry as a solid
entry-level value within the category.  The expert editors at
Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com recently named the Lancer a 2008
Coolest New Car Under $18,000 for its rally-inspired performance
and handling features and cutting-edge in-car technology.
In 2007, the Lancer was selected as one of About.com’s Top 10
Cars for Teens and one of CNNMoney.com’s 10 Cars Worth Waiting
For, while the high-performance 2008 Lancer Evolution received
a Popular Mechanics Automotive Excellence Award in the Fun
to Drive category.

The next-generation Lancer also won BrandIntel’s 2008 Consumer
Voice Award for receiving the best combination of consumer
discussion and sentiment in the compact car segment and has
received industry-wide praise:

“The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is a robust and satisfying people
mover that will further elevate buyer expectations in this
ever-elevating segment.” – Edmunds.com

“For those who want their entry-level sedan on the sporty side,
this new Lancer will be worth a long look.” – Car and Driver

Based on the same performance-engineered global platform of the
Lancer, the Mitsubishi Outlander melds bold, sporty design with
impressive room and utility, offering 5- or 7-seat flexibility,
clever cargo area packaging and the segment’s first flap-fold
tailgate.  Many of these features, as well as its off-road
capabilities, landed the Outlander a 2007 DogCar of the Year
Award for Best Small-Sized SUV from dog experts Dr. Marty Becker
and Gina Spadafori at DogCars.com.  The Outlander has also
received accolades within some of the top industry publications:

“The redesigned Outlander is greatly improved and is now a
competitive entry in this class” – Consumer Reports

“All in all, the Outlander is an attractive entrant in the
small CUV category, with above-average power and features.”
– Ward’s AutoWorld

“Overall, the Outlander shows real promise in a competitive
market segment.  It offers versatility and some driving fun
in a package that’s neither too big nor too small.”
– Consumer Reports

Both the model lines also satisfy the growing consumer demand
for user-technology, as evidenced by a recent poll conducted
by MyRide.com, which found that 56 percent of respondents said
that high tech features impact their purchasing decisions.
Bluetooth® hands-free calling and pre-paid SIRIUS® Satellite
Radio subscription come standard with the Lancer and Outlander,
while other available options include Sportronic magnesium
steering wheel shifter paddles, a 30-GB hard drive navigation
system (with 6-GB of digital music storage capacity) and a
650-watt Rockford-Fosgate® Premium Audio system.

“Given the current state of the industry, we are seeing demand
within the compact vehicle segment continue to rise,” said
Dan Kuhnert, executive vice president of sales and marketing
for MMNA.  “As this demand rises, we are planning to carve
out a larger piece of the compact segment and offer consumers
more models in the Lancer and Outlander lines.”

For the current model year, the Outlander has introduced a new
entry-level 2.4-liter ES model that starts at $19,990 and a
SE model that combines the economy of the 4-cylinder engine
with the features found in the premium XLS model.

The 2009 model line also features a new 2.4-liter Lancer GTS
model with a168 horsepower aluminum DOHC MIVEC 4-cylinder
engine, as well as a the all-new Lancer Ralliart, which will
be available this summer.  Powered by a new 2.0-liter DOHC
MIVEC intercooled and turbocharged engine that produces 237
horsepower, the Lancer Ralliart will feature a Twin Clutch-SST
gearbox and a fulltime 4WD driveline with Active Center
Differential (ACD), offering a medium between the Lancer GTS
and the Lancer Evolution.
